Another place you can find gear is on the auction house but again, depending on server it's usually not worth it-People overprice items useful for leveling on my server's AH because higher level people use them for alts.
However, I wouldn't recommend it-It can be quite expensive and for your first character, I'd take two gathering professions such as skinning and mining.
Honestly, quest rewards will almost always be enough to get you by, all the way to level 80. If you're really that concerned about your gear, your WoW gold,WOW Gold EU, take up tailoring.
